The museum is dedicated to helping families and students learn about the importance of mining and minerals to our history, our environment, and our future. We offer free activities for children and youth groups, including our Junior Ranger Program. We also provide school tours relating to geology, rocks and minerals, the gold rush, and mining history to hundreds of students each year.
Our lives are dedicated to agriculture and oenology. We prune, we trellis and train, we monitor vines through the seasons, we harvest, we press, and we bottle all in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains right outside of Yosemite National Park. We hope to meet you soon.
OARS was founded in 1969 by river pioneer George Wendt. By 1974 the company found its permanent home in Angels Camp, California, where George and his wife Pam turned a fledgling rafting company into what is now one of the most respected outfitting companies in the world.
I am a self-taught painter who has adopted a fresh ala prima style both painting en plein air and in my Mariposa studio. I continue to draw outdoors, sometimes doing very large finished pieces. Working outdoors with paint I often use oil painting knives to give texture and volume to the works. Most importantly, I paint what I feel about a place, not just what I see.
Nestled in downtown Mariposa, a small town on Hwy 140, outside of Yosemite National Park, sits the historic building once called the Louvre Hotel back in 1890. Today the upstairs part of the building has become the RummStudio Upstairs Gallery. Here you can peruse art created by Faith Rumm and other excellent local artists. A wide variety of art is available, from cards and prints, to small "en plein air" paintings, to large-scale artworks.
