Over 3000 Painted Ladies to be Let Loose in Mariposa
Friday, April 19, 2013

The Butterfly Festival events start well before the first weekend in May. Festival actually begins gearing up in early spring. Butterflies eggs and habitats are distributed to local classrooms and to Children's Hospital Fresno to facilitate educational opportunities in science. Experts in writing, photography, and art also visit the schools to encourage students to express their creativity in the many contests that are a part of the Mariposa Butterfly Festival. Festival volunteers visit Children's Hospital Fresno once the butterflies are mature for a butterfly release.

Having said that - The first weekend in May (3 – 5), is full of festivities for the entire family. This is an event you will not want to miss.

Learn about butterflies, while they tickle your hand and remind you of the wonderment of youth. Grab an orange slice (butterflies can’t resist) and allow us to introduce you to a beautiful painted lady – butterfly that is. Watch the butterflies as they enjoy the sweet nectar of the orange slices then watch them take flight along with 1000’s of other butterflies that are released over the three day event.
