Fish Camp
On highway 41, near the south entrance to Yosemite National Park, you will find Fish Camp, a small village, whose name derived from the loggers who worked in the area in the 1800's. Now, this small community is known as a residential area chock full of history. Visitors can enjoy a home away from home in the beautiful Sierras through vacation rentals among the residents. Fully equipped with a post office, general store, one could enjoy the winter snow with the comfort of supplies nearby.

Sugar Pine Railroad
All aboard! From 1899 to 1931, the Madera Sugar Pine Lumber Company operated miles of narrow-gauge railroad track to allow the running of logging trains between the forests and the mill.
Today, the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, a restoration of that railroad, includes two vintage Shay steam locomotives. Visitors and train enthusiasts will enjoy a train ride through the forests, as they learn about the indigenous trees, the logging industry of the 1800's and of the trains. This one hour excursion covers over four scenic miles of track for a delightfully, relaxing experience.
When the train ride is over, be sure to visit the gold panning area near the train station and gift shop, where you can pan your own gold!
