Our Communities

Coulterville

Located at the junction of Highway 49 and 132, this little community has a colorful history dating back to the discovery of gold in the mid 1800’s.  Most of the original town still exists and beckons tourists taking the lazy day route to Yosemite. This route will deliver a historical view for those wishing to see the Old West.

Despite three devastating fires in its history, Coulterville is designated a State Historical Landmark with 40 historical buildings and sites remaining.

Today, visitors can enjoy friendly shopkeepers, summer celebrations and gunfight reenactments in celebration of the history of the Wild West.

This museum tells the story of the Coulterville area, including its early heyday as a wild mining community.  The Gold Rush days and the migration to california from all over the world can be traced throughout the museum.

Early life in the United States can be experienced throughout the town and museum.  Weaving, spinning, gold panning, and mining demonstrations are available to provide a living history experience.  Located at the intersection of Highway 49 North and 132, this is a stop worth making.
