Catheys Valley
Located along Highway 140 this area originated as a ranching community in the early 1850’s.
Here you can slow down and explore the winding, unfrequented side roads, which are perfect for bicycling, and put you in the midst of wild flowers in the spring, numerous field birds, soaring hawks and the occasional golden eagle.
The amazing vistas of the distant Sierra peaks are awe inspiring.
The first Catheys Valley post office opened in 1879, and closed in 1881. The Cathay post office opened in 1882, closed in 1918, re-opened in 1919, and changed its name to Catheys Valley in 1964.
